So honored

Wednesday, May 27th, 2015

Thank you to Dr. Babak Azzizadeh and the ENT/Facial Plastics community for inviting me to their joint UCLA/USC Facial Plastics Journal Club. I was in the company of some of the most thoughtful and talented facial plastic and oculoplastic surgeons in our greater Los Angeles community and their residents and fellows. We had a lively discussion of several articles pertaining to Mohs reconstruction and wrinkle fillers while enjoying a great steak dinner and wine. I saw some familiar faces, met many new colleagues, and we all learned a lot from each other.

Hope Town Harbor at sunset

Thanks for letting me rest this week. I hope everyone is able to recharge their batteries soon. It’s been a good week of great food, 90 degree water, cool breezes, good cocktails and laughing kids. Trying not to be a backseat nervous motorboat driver and to not think about shark attacks. The white noise of the crashing waves is helping. Despite pounding my skin with zinc oxide sunblock, the sun here is incredibly intense. 5 minutes without protection on my forearms brought out tan freckles on my arms I’ve never seen in my life. Clothes are definitely the best protection.

Enjoy the sunset and imagine yourself drinking a coconut rum drink with cool gentle breezes…

Don’t Fry Day

Wednesday, May 13th, 2015

Don’t Fry Day is Friday, May 22nd. May is also Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Don’t forget to get your annual skin examination. I’ve found more melanoma in the past year than ever before. It’s often not the mole or lesion the patient is worried about. Also consider giving to Sun Safety For Kids, a 501c3 non-profit organization of which I am a board member. It is committed to research projects and promotion of sun safety practices in children. The website is sunsafetyforkids.org.
