Disneyland Fun

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

I took one day off last week to take the girls to Disneyland for the first time. We had a good time. Anna and Elsa from Frozen were the big attraction and had a 3-4 hour wait. Needless to say, we did not wait. We did see them in passing! So if you want to see them, make sure you go straight ahead (even run!) to Fantasyland, towards the left hand side near the Village Haus restaurant, preferably on a non-Magic Morning day as early as possible. Of course, going VIP would be the best route, but that requires a lot of cash and people willing to splurge on this. The funniest thing is watching grown adults without kids in line for the princesses (?!).

The character breakfast was fun for the girls, the food was definitely a C, complete with dirty silverware and sticky tables, but oh well! The look on Amelie’s face waving to the parade is so priceless! I almost cried watching her. Her sister watched the video later and made fun of her asking, “Why were you waving to everyone?”

Other rides worth it were the Buzz Lightyear ride and Alice in Wonderland. Unfortunately, It’s a Small World, Big Thunder Railroad and Pixie Hollow were closed the day we went. I hear Mickey’s Magic Map is a good show, but we didn’t have time or energy! I must say, they need to have more male characters for the boys. What is up with that?

I can see how this Disneyland thing can get quite addicting. In fact, one of my patient’s told me about a free great app called “Mouse Addict” which gives approximate wait times. It comes in handy.

Let's be clear, I'm Dale, not Chip!

A California Adventure

Thursday, November 14th, 2013

I have resisted going to Disneyland for the longest time. My kids are finally old enough to appreciate it (I think). We spent the day at California Adventure and had a great time. The weather was perfect!

A lot of people have not been there is a long time, or have never been to California Adventure. Here are my tips:

1) If you have any desire to ride Radiator Springs Racers (NOTE: this is a roller coaster) you must get in line early (we are talking a half hour ahead of opening) and try to get a FastPass which allows you to come back at a designated time. We waited about 45 minutes for it, but when we got to the ride, we only waited 10 minutes; as opposed to just getting in line which is routinely 90 minutes or longer! Try to go on a day that does not have “Magic Morning” (when hotel guests are given early access to the park) which pretty much eliminates the chance to get one unless you are super early. Needless to say, go on a weekday.

2) The only other popular thing to get a FastPass for would be World of Color. I have never seen anything like it in my life. I have video clips of it-those are not images on a screen, they are holograms! But a better move would be to buy the lunch or dinner package at one of the restaurants which give you VIP seating for the show. This was well worth it and not crazy expensive. (I had the lamb shank at Wine Country Trattoria and it was amazing! the appetizers and desserts were just meh). I felt almost guilty, our seats were so close up to the water, there were thousands of people behind us who didn’t benefit from seeing the water jets and laser lights up close. God Bless Alan Menken (he almost became a doctor. I think he chose the correct career path)! Disney owes him big time. The music is everything!

3) The only other rides I thought were worth it were Condor Flats Soaring over California (feels like you are flying, so amazing; you can FastPass this also but we only had a 10 minute wait) and the Ariel Undersea Adventure, for any Little Mermaid Fans. The day was uber-long (we left LA at 7:30 AM and didn’t get home until 10 PM) but the stroller saved my life. The Aladdin musical was really entertaining and professional, and the parades were super cute.

I have video clips of World of Color to look at for anyone who is curious, or cannot afford to go there. I also have a pretty cute clip of one of my twin daughters dancing with the performers (yeah, release!). God love her for trying. She is the shrimp in the middle, all of the girls look a lot older than her. I have lots of good videos to embarass her with when she gets married! Actually, I wouldn’t be embarrassed if I were her. Not bad for a 4 year old!

On Saturday, we saw the Space Shuttle Endeavor at the California Science Center. Didi was unimpressed. Amelie just walked out and wanted to see the fish!
