LASER FOR HAIR REMOVAL
WHAT CAN LASERS DO TO REDUCE HAIR?

Hair-removal lasers can permantely remove or reduce the quantity and caliber of hairs - as long as they are brown to dark hairs which grow fast.

WHAT LASERS ARE AVAILABLE?

The most common lasers used for hair-removal are the diode laser, the 1064 laser, the Alexandrite laser (755nm), and the intense-pulsed light devices.

DOES IT HURT?

All lasers hurt, but topical anesthesia can be given to ease pain and increase comfort.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?

Results vary per individual. Many hairs are removed permanently after a series of treatments. The slower growing, finer, and lighter hairs may only be temporarily removed, reduced, or not at all removed or reduced.

WHAT SIDE-EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?
Stinging, pain, and redness may persist for about a day.
WHAT RISKS ARE POSSIBLE?
Risks of hair-removal lasers include, but are not limited to:
   - Hyper- or hypopigmentation, redness
   - Infection
   - Scarring (rare)
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW?
A disciplined sun protection program is required for all patients several weeks before treatment to several weeks after the series of treatments are completed.

Medium-skinned persons should undergo treatments with the diode or 1064nm laser. Dark-skinned patients need the 1064nm laser.
